PSYC 2103 Assignments:
During the semester you will participate in several exercises that will be turned in as part of your overall grade. These may include surveys, experiments, demonstrations, quizzes, response or summary papers, APA practice assignments, etc. They may occur during class or may be assigned during class to be turned in on line or in the next class. These will not be announced in advance. If you are absent on the day the activity is assigned, you may make up the assignment for ½ the credit (unless it is an excused absence as discussed under the attendance section of this syllabus. There will be approximately 12 assignments worth up to 15 points each for a total of up to 180 points
Assignment # 1: assigned: January 8 due: January 15
After reading the class syllabus, please copy and paste the syllabus acknowledegement into a word
document, sign, scan, and send a copy which contains your name in the document
file name to Mr. Roop at [email protected] by Tuesday January 15
Assignment # 2: assigned: January 28 due: January 31
Read the article found under Section 1 of PSYC 2103 on PSYCDWEEB, "Dad's Hidden Influence," and write a brief response papeer (2 or 3 paragraphs). In the paper you should briefly summarize the article and then offer a personal comment on the article and what it discusses (info you were unaware of, agree / disagree and why, etc.). You should e-mail your response in a word document to my northgeorgia.edu address. Please include your name in the document file name The assignment is due by the beginning of class on Thursday, January 31.
Assignment # 3: assigned: January 31 due: February 5
Go to section 1 of PSYC 2103 on PSYC DWEEB and take the Hemispheric preference test found at the bottom of the page. Calculate your quadrant and hemispheric scores and send the results to me through my northgeorgia.edu email by the beginning of class on Tuesday February 5. (I only need your left and right totals, not the entire test)
Assignment # 4: assigned: Feb 21 due: Feb 21 in class
Some of Piaget's critics believe that he stopped too soon in his explanation of how cognitive development takes place. They use as their argument the fact that how we think changes as we age. Write a brief response to the question"How is your thinking different today from when you were in high school?" You may write out, use bullet points, list, etc. This assignment was done in class. If you were absent and wish to turn this in, you may do so by the beginning of class on Tuesday Feb 26 for partial credit.

If you missed class, ask a friend to time you and complete the memory strategy test found under section 2 of PSYC 2103 on PSYC DWEEB. Scan the entire activity and e-mail it to me or bring a hard copy to me by the beginning of class on 2/28 for partial credit.
Assignment # 6: assigned Feb 28 due: March 7
Take the Multiple Intelligences Test found under Section 2 on PSYC DWEEB to see where you rank on Gardner's Theory of Multiple Intelligences. Upon completing the test, copy and e-mail the results to me by the beginning of
class on Thursday March 7.
Assignment # 7: assigned and completed in class February 28
If you missed class (2/28), ask someone to time you for 4 minutes (total) and list 6 alternative uses for a book, a bed sheet, and a wire coat hangar other than what they are normally used for to test your ideational fluency. E-mail me or turn in the list to me by the beginning of class of March 7.
Assignment # 8: Big Five Personality Test: assigned 3/26 due 3/28
Go to the web link for the "Big 5" personality test under section 3 of PSYC 2103 on PSYC DWEEB
and take the test. (Be aware that the test will ask you some general demographic questions because the site is set up to be used for research purposes. All info is confidential). E-mail a copy of your test to Mr. Roop by the beginning of class on Thursday March 28. (Be aware that your test results will be 10+ pages in length, and that you will need to save it onto your desktop or on a jump drive. Instructions on how to save the file is at the end of the test. If you do not save it you will not be able to access it again on the web site but will have to retake it)
Assignment # 9: Self-Compassion: assigned 3/26 due 3/28
Go to section 3 and take the Self-Compassion test at the given link. When you complete it, e-mail me your final score total by the beginning of class on Tuesday Novermber 13.
Assignment # 10: OEM-EIS: assigned 3/28 due 4/2
Go to section 3 of PSYC 2103 on PSYC DWEEB and take the OEM-EIS test to see where you fall in Marcia's identity statuses. After taking the test, transfer your score for each question onto the score sheet then total your scores in each column. E-mail a copy of your score sheet (do not need whole test) or your totals for each column by the beginning of class on Tuesday April 2nd . Keep a record of your scores for yourself so we can talk about
what the scores mean on that Tuesday.
